The book makes a refreshing reading of contemporary Indian poetry by women writers. It vehemently negates the pre-conceived notion that Indian English poetry is derivative and imitative. The book analyzes the poetry of selected seven poets as they grapple with the dilemmas and dualities, the conflicts and confusions and the subjugations and submissiveness in a deeply ingrained patriarchal society. Vacillating between conformity and protest, they feel frustrated and sound schizophrenic. The purpose of the present study is to reveal the agonizing experiences of the poets and find out the significance of
this schizophrenic decentring. Such an approach is innovative and
immensely adds to our understanding of contemporary Indian women poets.
