This is perhaps one of the few critical books which have appeared in recent past aiming at deconstructing Eliot’s literary corpus. Deconstruction of his poems, prose and plays, as this study shows, leads to the discovery of Eliot’s own deconstructive insight into the
worldly phenomenon. His deep and eclectic scholarship ensures such an
approach in his writing. A symbiotic relationship is, thus, established
between his corpus and the philosophy of deconstruction. In this,
he can be called the precursor of Derrida even as Eliot situates himself,
at times, at the cross-roads of structuralism and post-structuralism.
Various strategies like inter-textuality, hermeneutics, rhetoric, close reading, feminist criticism are valid in the domain of deconstruction and have therefore, been applied in this study.
